Assignment:

Actively engage in multi-faceted action against climate change, sustainable environmental protection.Development-related activities that would help reduce the gap between hunger and poverty, mitigate climate change and protect the environment and conserve natural resources.

Protection de la biodiversité:

Niger is home to more than 1400 plant species, about 130 species of mammals and more than 150 reptiles and amphibians. Niger’s avifauna includes 528 birds, 15 of which are globally threatened. The most endangered species of antelope, the dama gazelle, has become a national symbol. In the wild, dama gazelles are estimated to number less than 300 and listed on the IUCN red list of threatened species as critically endangered.

The sahara desert covers about 65℅ of Niger. Harsh desert condition hamper the survival of most of these native species. Over the past decades, Niger has experienced an accelerated level of biodiversity degradation.

About 21 million acres, or around 6℅ of Niger’s land area, are protected but poaching and habitat loss are talking a heavy toll on the country’s wildlife. The main threat are overexploitation of resources and anthropogenic factors.

It is estimated that more than 70 protected areas in Niger have lost substanial portions of their biological diversity. Protected areas in Niger are generally hampered by limited resources.

                       OBJECTIVE

Build a biodiversity observation network in Niger.

The observation network consists of observing, preserving and informing the situation of biodiversity and the environment..

Agriculture and food security

In Niger global warming and the degradation of agricultural land have intensified in recent years impacting the survival of populations.

A region impacted by community conflicts and global warming for more than a decade some regions of Niger are suffering from a crisis with multiple causes. The impacts of climate change on the natural environment the violence of non-state armed groups and the limited capacities of state services have dramatic consequences on the lives of populations.

The sharnig of natural resources in particular is a source of conflict within communities Nigerien low contains provisions on land appropriation but these are rarely used as the procedures are often cumbersome and very costly. These tensions are accentuated by climatic phenomena such as situation frequent droughts and declining soil fertility. Faced with this situation the project aims to restore the land and help the communities to self manage the resources. This notably involves the formalization of the rules of access to ressource within the communities thanks to local conventions and the transmission of techniques to define the future of abondoned land while guaranteeing exploitation that respects the environment.

Faced with this situation we thought about a solution :  land reclamation techniques, climate-smart agriculture and permaculture to help local populations cope with climate shocks.

LAND RECLAMATION TECHNIQUES :

Agricultural, silvo-pastoral and pastoral half-moons :

-Assisted natural regeneration.

-Dune fixing.

-The zai.

-Firewall strips.

-The dry stone wall.

-The classic bench.

-Stone cords.

-The fight against invasive terrestrial plants.

The restoration of degraded lands is one of the means of achieving food security by acting on the factors of land degradation which are mainly climatic and anthropogenic.

These techniques have improved soil fertility, increase agricultural production, the increase in the income of populations of its area of intervention, the regeneration of natural resources, the basis of agro-pastoral production ; increase forage availability.

CLIMATE SMART AGRICULTURE :

Le climate-smart agriculture is an approach that defines the measures necessary to transform and reorient agriculture systems with the aim of effectively supporting the development of agriculture and ensuring food security in the face of climate change.

The climate smart agriculture aims ta address three main constraints that characterize Niger agriculture sector :

Objectives :

low productivity and low resilience, it should make it possible to achieve the triple benefit of climate-smart agriculture which are :

Sustainably increasing agricultural productivity and incomes (food security), adaptation and building resilience to the impacts of climate change and the reduction and elemination of greenhause gas emission,Is at the heart of niger climate change strategy.

The project is structured around four component :

Component 1 : investments for scaling up climate-smart agriculture pratices.

Component 2 : capacity building and improved service delivery for climate-smart agriculture.

Component 3 : rapid reaction mechanism in the face of an emergency.

Component 4 : project management and coordination.

The project intervention area covers the regions of Zinder

The project activities will be concentrated on the Communes located in the bioclimatic zone between 400mm and 600mm and recognized for their high vulnerability to food insecurity, but with enormous potential for increasing agriculture productivity.

Funding to support the implementation of communes.

Funding to support the activities of municipalities will be covered for a period of 12 month or more.

PERMACULTURE PHASE 1

Action Niger has set up a permaculture project on the living base of nigeriens, which is very conclusive pilot project initially made it possible to develop and master this market gardening technique adapted to the Nigerien climate the main short-term objective is to introduce bush villagers to permaculture and agriculture technique to create market gardens in the heart of the bush.

To do this a member of action crisscrosses the bush from village to village to train volunters in the basics of these the villagers can in turn transmit this know-how to the inhabitants of the neighboring village and thus develop this practice through the bush. This simple form of market gardening would allow population to become self-sufficient in enhance food resources other than traditional cereal crops such as millet or sorghum this project. Will also make it possible to obtain, in the medium term, positive repercussions on the health of children by offer a varied diet that would help fight against malnutrition and food insecurity.

PERMACULTURE PHASE 2

This project, innovation in Niger, aims to build the resilience of populations vulnerable to climate change through permaculture.

The project team is made up of 2 permaculture coaches, the co-founder of cultures permanentes, as well as 10 field agents and 2 Nigerien agricultural engineers trained in permaculture.

THE VALUES OF PERMACULURE :

This cultivation technique is based on 3 fundamental values :

-Environmental : taking care of nature as a whole

-Humanitarian : taking care of vulnerable people exposes people to climate shocks and future generation.

-Solidarity : redistributes the surplus linked to the abundance of products.

THE STARTING POINT :

-The degradation of sahelian ecosystems.

-Environmental degenerative farming practices.

-Desertication.

-Salinization of arable land.

-Food and Nutrition insecurity.

-Poverty and major migrations of rural populations goals.

-Developing sustainable family farming, focused on reducing poverty, food insecurity and malnutrition is the contribution of permaculture.

-Rehabilitate land through massive reforestation and revegetation of land to lock in CO2 and strengthen food security for people and livestock.

-Improve the standard of living of the beneficiaries through the creation of cooperatives for the processing of agro-sylvo-pastoral and fish products.

THE EXPECTED RESULTS :

-The rehabilitation of 30,000 ha of land in the region.

-The financial autonomy of 2000 farmers and their families : reduction of economic emigration.

-The improvement, for more than 3,000 direct beneficiaries, of their food insecurity and their nutritional status in particular pregnant women and children under.

-Rotional management of local resources.

-Refertilization of land through massive reforestation.

-The pooling of the means of production, conservation and processing of products thanks to 3 cooperatives, one per circle department.

AMBITION

Action Niger fervently hopes that this project, once completed, can be extended nationwide and internationally.Cliquez

catastrophe naturelle:

Improve flood resilience and access to essential services.

In the Sahel, the climatic and geographic transition in the Sahara Desert creates enormous and unpredictable risks of drought and water scarcity. This often results in food insecurity in neighboring countries, including Niger, which is more than 80% covered by the Sahara Desert. More frequent and intense natural disasters hamper the recovery of vulnerable communities, as new crises compound the lingering effects of older ones.

Droits de l'homme et éducation:

 Phase 1:

The overall objective is to contribute to the strengthening of training capacities in order to increase performance by taking into account new curricula and training learning methods in the various fields.

The training consists of piloting and developing an action plan that helps young girls and boys have a better and safer future.

Part 1:

Identify women aged 18 to 28 and men in the village and support them in training. The members of the action go through the bush from village to village to target the volunteers. once certain women in the village have been trained, they could in turn transmit this know-how to the inhabitants of the neighboring village and thus develop this practice through the bush for zero ignorance by 2050.

Phase 2:

The phase 2 program consists of providing quality vocational training adapted to the socio-economic reality for young girls and boys aged 15 to 30, in order to provide them with the knowledge and skills necessary for their development, their development and their socio-economic integration.

The implementation of this program contributes significantly to improving the training offer in its areas of intervention. This contribution focused on expanding the supply of vocational training in both urban and rural areas, in particular through the creation of groups of people, the equipment of training centers and sites, without forgetting the establishment a network of specialists in training engineering and guidance-integration  of young people at the level of the various localities.

Phase 3:

Provide quality basic education, having a leverage effect on the non-formal education system, enables unschooled and unschooled young girls and boys aged 18 to 28 to acquire the basic skills necessary for their integration into the social and economic life.

In Niger, the education system is marked by limited access to education, a very low retention and completion rate, and above all, extremely low internal efficiency since 72% of pupils at the end of the primary cycle are below the minimum threshold in French.

In 2013, Niger had more than 1,500,000 young people (15-24 years old) on the labor market without any professional qualification, more than 2,160,000 old young people not attending school and out of school waiting without any educational alternative.

  The youth education program,

  STEP 1:

Developed quality basic education to enable unschooled or out-of-school young girls and boys to acquire the basic skills necessary to integrate social and economic life.

Through this program it aims to build quality education, adapted to rural areas, in order to enable young people to acquire the basic skills necessary for their transition to vocational training, or even working life.

STEP 2:

Develop a quality and fair educational and training offer with particular emphasis on reducing developers.

STEP 3:

Improve the level of student learning at all levels.

STEP 4:

Ensure effectiveness and efficiency in resource mobilization and management for successful program implementation at all levels.

Provide training on:

Identify women and young people to support them in vocational training. Indeed, these trainings must be done in various areas such as sewing, dyeing, processing and conservation of tomatoes, onions and other local products. These support strategies for training and professional integration in Niger contribute to the socio-economic development of populations through training, strengthening employability and professional integration. The program can be given in priority to women aged 18 to 30 and young boys aged 15 to 30.

-Training in the savings strategy for the well-being of the family.

-Training in the manufacture of soap and ointment, and in other areas in sewing, knitting and making sheets, poufs, carpets, make-up, and care body care, cooking and baking for women.

Notre histoire :

The creation of Action Niger comes in a context where Niger is resolutely committed, under the aegis of the United Nations, to putting an end to climate change. And to ensure a healthy and sustainable environment.

Above all, we must highlight the implementation of legal texts regulating the preservation of the environment. The ratification of these regulatory texts by the State of Niger.

All the efforts made by the State and its partners to improve their living conditions remain precarious. These precarities can be explained by difficulties linked to climate change, environmental problems, peace and security, natural risks, the frequency, intensity and duration of extreme phenomena heatwaves, floods, drought.

Given all these barriers which block the smooth running of socio-economic and sustainable development, signatory members have decided to put in place to provide their expertise in order to reduce the misery effects in vulnerable situations.

                                                      Vision :

To be a leading NGO in supporting the State and local communities in the promotion of the environment, the restoration of peace, education, health, agriculture, water, hygiene and sanitation.

This involves providing technical support to strengthen the resilience of agricultural and pastoral systems over the long term and gradually exit emergency mode.

PAYS Niger

Cliquez ici pNiger, in long form the Republic of Niger, is a country in West Africa, located between Algeria to the northwest, Libya to the northeast, Chad to the east, Nigeria to the south , Benin to the south-southwest, Burkina Faso and Mali to the west-southwest. The capital is Niamey. The inhabitants are Nigeriens and Nigeriens[note 1]. The surface of the country is largely covered by the Sahara and the Sahel.

The country's territory was colonized and integrated into French West Africa in the context of the European partition of Africa at the end of the 19th century. The territory became a separate colony in 1922 and gained independence in 1960. Since then, the country has experienced five coups and four periods of military rule. After the 2010 coup d'état, the constitution of the Seventh Republic was promulgated, and Niger became a unitary, democratic, multi-party republic with a semi-presidential regime. In 2023, a new coup d'état takes place, and the country is once again under a military junta.

The country is multi-ethnic and constitutes a land of contact between sub-Saharan Africa and North Africa. The Hausa are the largest ethnicity and make up more than half of the population. Although secular, Islam is the dominant religion, and is practiced by nearly 100% of the population. The official language is French and ten indigenous languages have national language status.

Niger's most important natural resources are gold, iron, coal, uranium, and oil.
